Sports Photography

This was one of the many sporting events I covered working as a sports writer and photographer for the U.S. Army while stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga., from October 2003 to July 2005.



Working as part of the press has its perks. I was fortunate to attend the Masters Golf Tournament twice while stationed in Georgia.



Above is a photo of the crowds between holes, at the 2005 Masters Tournament. I never imagined I would ever be there covering such a well-known event. It was a great experience.

Sports Photography

One thing is for sure...... Soldiers like sports. It doesn't matter if it is competitive or recreational. They like sports. They either watch it on TV or are participating in it. It was pretty cool to see how athletic and talented servicemembers are. Many of them trained to compete on a very serious level, some even reaching the Olympics.





At first photographing sports was kind of intimidating. It was frustrating, trying to get "the shot." You know, the one good photo that everyone would be talking about. Although I still need a lot of practice, I think I pretty much got the fundamentals of photographing sports: keep your eye on the action, and shoot, shoot, shoot.


This was a cool shot. I got him in mid-air dishing the ball to an open teammate.
